Lyondellbasell planning new PE plant in Texas
Lyondellbasell is considering whether to build a new polyethylene (PE) plant at its manufacturing site near Corpus Christi, Texas, according to documents filed in April and May with the Texas Comptroller’s Office. The company proposes to begin construction in the first quarter of 2024, with completion targeted for late 2028.
The documents, part of an application for tax breaks, say Lyondellbasell is also considering locations near its manufacturing sites in Louisiana. The documents do not specify the grade of PE or production capacities involved.
Lyondellbasell operates a 1.13-million metric tons/year (MMt/y) steam cracker at its site near Corpus Christi, and five other crackers located in Texas, Iowa, and Illinois. The company also operates nine PE plants in Texas, Illinois, and Iowa.
In addition, Lyondellbasell operates a 1.50 MMt/y cracker and two PE plants in Lake Charles, Louisiana, as part of a joint venture with Sasol.
