　　Baker Hughes: US rig count down 1 unit to 438

　　The US drilling rig count decreased by 1 unit to reach 438 rigs working for the week ended Apr. 23, according to Baker Hughes data. The count is down 27 units from the 465 rigs working this time a year ago.

　　The number of rigs drilling on land was unchanged week-over-week with a total of 426. The number of rigs drilling offshore decreased by 1 unit to reach 11.

　　US oil-directed rigs were down 1 rig from last week at 343 units. This time a year ago, 378 units were drilling for oil. Rigs targeting gas were unchanged at 94, 9 more than were drilling for gas at this time a year ago.

　　Of the major oil and gas-producing states, New Mexico saw the only increase. A 1-rig increase brought the rig count to 47 for the week.

　　Texas dropped 3 rigs to reach 211 rigs running for the week.

　　Eleven states remained unchanged this week, namely Louisiana 47; Oklahoma, 21; Pennsylvania, 18; North Dakota 15; West Virginia, 11; Colorado, 10; Ohio, 10; Utah, 8; California, 7; Wyoming, 4; and Alaska, 3.

　　Canada’s rig count decreased by 1 unit to 55 rigs drilling for the week. The count is 29 more than the 26 units drilling this week a year ago. At 17 units, Canada’s oil-directed rig count is unchanged for the week. The gas-directed rig count in Canada is down 1 unit to 38.
