Baker Hughes: Canada’s rig count up 10 units to 136
Canada added 10 rigs for the week ended July 2, according to Baker Hughes data. At 136 rigs, the count is 118 more than the 18 units drilling this week a year ago. With 87 rigs drilling, Canada’s oil-directed rig count is up 5 for the week. The gas-directed rig count in Canada increased by 3 units to reach 47.
The overall US rig count is up 5 for the week at 475 rigs working. The count is up 212 units from the 263 rigs working this time a year ago.
The number of rigs drilling on land in the US is up 5 units week-over-week with a total of 459. The number of rigs drilling in inland waters is unchanged at 2. The offshore rig count is unchanged at 14.
US oil-directed rigs increased by 4 from last week to reach 376 units. This time a year ago, 185 units were drilling for oil. Rigs targeting gas are up 1 unit to 99, 23 more than were drilling for gas at this time a year ago.
Of the major oil and gas-producing states, Colorado saw the largest increase in rigs. With 3 additional units, the state’s rig count stands at 13 for the week.
Texas, Pennsylvania, and North Dakota each gained a single unit to reach rig counts of 222, 19, and 18, respectively.
Wyoming’s rig count decreased by 1 rig to reach 9 rigs drilling for the week.
Eight states remained unchanged this week, namely New Mexico 75; Louisiana, 52; Oklahoma, 27; Utah, 10; Ohio, 9; West Virginia, 9; California. 6; and Alaska, 4.
